Obituary

Martha Alice (McCarter) Miller, age 84, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Martha was born in Belltown, Tennessee, on June 4, 1942, to Major and Emma Jean (McSpadden) McCarter. She grew up in Maryville, was a member of Broadway Baptist Church, and graduated from Everett High School. Martha attended Carson-Newman College and later graduated from Maryville College. Most of her career was spent with IJ (Institutional Jobbers) and later with The Keller Group. Martha enjoyed traveling and camping with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a sweet friend to everyone she met. Martha was our family historian and had a passion for maintaining contact with relatives near and far.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Miller; her parents Major & Emma Jean (McSpadden) McCarter; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, W. C. & Georgia (Hinchey) Miller; her son, Mark Edward Miller; and her brother William (Bill) McCarter.

She is survived by her children and their spouses Emily & Greg Capps, Randy & Leah Miller, and Eric & Susan Miller; her grandchildren and their spouses Morgan Miller Wol, Katie & Ryan Jorgensen, Mary Alison & Seth Sides, Molly & Teo Estrada, Emma Capps, Loran & Logan Ingram, Austin Miller & fiancé, Madison Bean; and her great-grandchildren Mila Wol, Marley Wol, Hadley Ingram, Wyatt Ingram, Carter Sides, and Valentina Estrada. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Diane & Bob McFarland; her sister-in-law, Rita McCarter; her brother and sister-in-law Alan & Debbie McCarter; her sisters-in-law Clara (Miller) Davis, Lida (Miller) Cooke, Elizabeth (Miller) Morgan, Donnie (Greene) Miller, Linda Miller, Benny (Griffin) Miller, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlie & Pat Miller, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her family is especially thankful to Shannondale of Maryville’s skilled nursing staff and Amedisys Hospice for their loving care, as well as Pastor Tony Collins and the ministry staff at Broadway Baptist Church for their continued visits and uplifting prayers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Broadway Baptist Church Television Ministry, which allowed Martha to remain a part of the Broadway family long after she was physically unable to attend services.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Broadway Baptist Church, 2329 E. Broadway Ave. Maryville, TN 37804. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Broadway Baptist Church, Rev. Tony Collins officiating
