Joseph Edward Hall, age 85, of Townsend passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Asbury Place of Maryville.  Joe had smelled the smoke of a thousand campfires and helped put the smoke in the Smokey Mountains during his lifetime of hunting and hiking experiences. He was a beloved father, papaw, and Great-Pap. Joe attended Campground United Methodist Church and was retired from ALCOA where he was a member of the 25 year Service Club and was known as "Bearman" or "Hoss".

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruby Hall; parents, Thomas Crate and Icie Effler Hall; great-granddaughter, Elowen Headrick.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela and Greg Johnson and Sharon and Roger Ezell; grandchildren, Sarah Smolka, Laura (Jared) Headrick, Mason Johnson and Matthew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Eva and Owen Headrick; nephews, Tony Huskey and Thomy Hall; niece, Lisa Jones; and many special friends.

Funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Stacy Brewer and Rev. William Brickey officiating.  Interment will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Tuckaleechee Methodist Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Townsend Area Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
