John William "JW" Patty, 77, went to his heavenly rest on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

He was a 1966 graduate of Friendsville High School and a Vietnam War veteran, serving from January 1969 to January 1970. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Tennessee Department of Military. For 27 of those years, he served in the Tennessee Air National Guard.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Patty; his son, James "Jamey" Patty; parents, Ralph and Georgia Patty; parents-in-law, James and Mintie Ross; brother, Lowery Patty; sister, Louise Shockley; grandson, Raylee Downey; and brothers-in-law, Max McNeilly, Stanley McCall, Eugene Shockley, and James Ross Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne (Paul) Shelton; sons, John "Johnny" Patty Jr., Jeffrey (Tina) Patty, Joseph "Joey" (Jessica) Patty, Jeremy (Brooke) Patty, and Jason (Kari) Patty; grandchildren, Levi, Kaylie, Nolan, Colton, Jameson, Carter, Owen, Eli, Will, Hannah, and Joshua; great-grandson, Rhett; sisters, Brenda McCall, Gladys McNeilly, and June (William) Ross; sisters-in-law, Wanda (Kenneth) Smith and Alice Ross; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses of Amedisys Hospice for their loving care and compassion.

Funeral service 7:00 PM Sunday June 8, 2025, at Marble Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Lon Shockley officiating. Graveside and interment will be held 12:00 PM Monday at Marble Hill Cemetery.
