John "Jack" J. McDonald Jr.

John "Jack" J. McDonald Jr., of Davie, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and raised in Ashley, Pennsylvania, Jack lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and pride for his country. At just 16 years old, after the loss of his father, Jack stepped into the role of the man of the house, becoming a source of strength, guidance, and support for his siblings—something they cherished throughout their lives. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, a role that remained a lifelong source of honor.

Jack married his beloved wife, Cathy McDade, and together they built a life in South Florida, where they raised their son, John J. McDonald III. He worked in construction for many years, contributing to the development of numerous commercial buildings throughout Miami and Fort Lauderdale. He later dedicated over 20 years of service to Broward County Public Schools as a Supervisor of Maintenance, where he was respected for his leadership and commitment until his retirement.

Jack was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He took great pride in the home he built for his family in Davie, Florida, where he lived for nearly 40 years. He was a deeply involved father who valued time spent with his family. Camping was among their favorite activities, creating many lasting memories with friends. In later years, his grandson, John J. McDonald IV, became his pride and joy, bringing him immense happiness and fulfillment.

Jack loved hosting family and friends, especially during the holidays. His favorite was St. Patrick's Day, which he celebrated with enthusiasm—decorating in green and preparing his well-loved homemade corned beef and cabbage for neighbors and loved ones. He also had a deep appreciation for music and concerts, shaped by growing up in the 1960s, and was an avid reader who enjoyed many books throughout his life. Throughout his years in Florida, his vacations were often spent returning to Pennsylvania to be with family, reflecting the deep bond he maintained with his roots.

He is survived by his son, John J. McDonald III; his grandson, John J. McDonald IV; his mother, Viola Krisanda; and his four siblings, Colleen Williams, Marty McDonald, Eileen Padden, and G.L. Krisanda. He remained closely connected to his large and tight-knit family throughout his life. A man of faith, Jack and his family are rooted in the Catholic tradition.

In his final days, Jack was surrounded by love, spending his last two weeks in Maryville, Tennessee with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson—time that meant a great deal to all.

In accordance with his wishes, Jack will be cremated and reunited with his beloved wife. A celebration of life will be held at his home in Davie, Florida, with details to be shared by the family.

Jack will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the way he brought people together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
