Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John D. MacLean II, lovingly known as “Jack,” at the age of 89. Born March 10th 1937 Passed October 15th 2026.

Jack was a devoted husband to his wife of 65 years, Betty, and a loving father to three children, including daughters Darlene, Suzanne and son John. To his eight beloved grandchildren, he was “Poppy,” a title he held with love and pride.

A U.S. Army veteran, Jack lived a life of hard work and service to his community. He spent 28 years as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier and also served as a softball and basketball referee. After retiring from the Post Office, he worked as a security guard at Parkview Hospital and later as a school crossing guard in Pine Hill, New Jersey, continuing well into his seventies.

Jack was an avid fisherman, an accomplished backyard Victory gardener, and a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes, his favorite crop, and took pride in tending his garden.

Above all, Jack was a deeply loved husband, father, and grandfather. His fatherly advice, razor-sharp sarcastic wit, and unwavering encouragement will be remembered and dearly missed.

Jack’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all the lives he touched.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Miller Funeral Home 915 West Broadway Ave in Maryville on Sunday October 18th from 5pm to 7pm followed by a burial service with full military honors at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway Knoxville TN on October 28th at 2pm.
