Janice Marie
Smelcer
Feb 29, 1956 — Jun 24, 2024
Janice Marie Smelcer (Hurst), age 68, of Seymour, peacefully passed away Monday, June 24, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She is finally face-to-face with her Saviour. She started her journey in first grade when a teacher led her to the Lord. She faithfully served over the years as a Godly wife, mother, nana, friend, and pastor's wife. She helped so many by sharing her testimony and her unending love for the Lord.
She devoted her life to her husband of 51 years, Rev. Rick Smelcer, her children Shawn (Stormy) Smelcer and Chris (Ginger) Smelcer, grandchildren Emily, Hannah, and Leah Smelcer. She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 brothers. She is survived by her brother Donny (Suzanne) Hurst. Her professional life consisted of a long career with Baptist Hospital and Tennova. She was a faithful member of Maryville Baptist Tabernacle where she served along side her husband for 21+ years. She loved her church family, and the love was returned by the congregation who will greatly miss her.
Janice met best friend, Debbie Keck, who lovingly helped care for her. The family extends special thanks to Debbie for the friendship and love she unselfishly gave Janice during this time.
A service to honor her life will be held at Maryville Baptist Tabernacle, Mt. Tabor Road, on June 30, 2024. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a church service to follow at 6:00 p.m., Rick Smelcer and Chris Smelcer officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1 at Maryville Baptist Tabernacle cemetery for internment.
Janice loved missionary work, especially for children. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Fund, Maryville Baptist Tabernacle, PO Box 6458, Maryville, TN 37802. Arrangements made by Miller Funeral Home
