Jane  A. Hudson 4/18/1936 - - 12/15/2024

Born in Chambersburg Pennsylvania to Joseph Charles Hudson and Lillian Edna Larson Hudson, Jane was especially proud of her Swedish heritage. One important lesson from her Swedish mother that stayed with her throughout her life was," You take on a part of all whom you have met, so choose those around you with great care".

Jane's education started at Chambersburg High school, followed by Jefferson University Hospital Diploma School of Nursing, Western Reserve (BSN), and Catholic University (Master's Nursing Administration). Jane started her nursing career as a staff nurse at Jefferson University Hospital and after earning her BS became a Head Nurse. Jane later worked at D.C. General and Sibley Hospital in Washington DC as a supervisor. Following her Master's degree, Jane joined Petersburg General Hospital as Director of Nursing. She would proudly add that she was fired from that position for her staunch support of nursing. Jane visited the World's Fair in Knoxville in August 1982 and thankfully for us, accepted the position of Director of Nursing at UT Medical Center in Knoxville. The position later changed to Vice President of Nursing and included responsibility for a number of other clinical and non clinical departments. Jane was a champion for Nursing there for 18 years before retiring on June 6, 2000. Jane said she was proud to have served with the best people in the world, in the best profession in the world. She said she enjoyed every position she held, but that the Head Nurse position was her favorite. Jane received numerous awards over the years, but believed that the care of our patients and their appreciation was more valuable than any award.

Residing in Maryville from 1982 until her death, Jane remained active in retirement caring for her dogs and cats, visiting with friends and reading. There is a swing on the Little River in Walland that she especially enjoyed, but not nearly often enough. She also maintained lifelong friendships from her childhood, as well as all of her years in nursing. She hesitated to name names for fear of forgetting someone, but you know who you are !! In the final months, when mobility became an issue, Jane spent endless hours watching a variety of birds at the feeders and birdbaths in her yard. She called it her bird sanctuary.

Preceded in death by parents Dr. & Mrs. Hudson, brother William Lars Hudson, brother Joseph Charles Hudson and sister Elizabeth Ann Dugas. She is survived by sister- in- law Kris March, niece Amanda Jane Hudson, adopted family Dicky & Sheryl Hogan , Scott & Katie Montgomery (God children Scarlett & Oaklynn, whom she said were the best medicine), friends from UT Medical Center and earlier in her career, friends from the community, and her constant loyal companions – Tillie & Betsy. Special thanks to loving caregiver and friend Misty Daniels who made it possible for Jane to remain in her home for the past two years.

Jane would tell you that she had a wonderful life, but was ready to go. She wondered what was taking Him so long. She fully expected to be greeted on arrival by her loved ones, as well as her many dogs & cats.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held after the first of the year.
