Harold Dwayne "Sandman" or "Bill" Sands, age 77, of Maryville passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He retired in 2009 from the Alcoa Landfill. Bill had a passion for dirt track racing, that he shared with his uncle Earl.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rema and Fred Sands; stepdad, Leonard Miller; and brothers, Steve, Clifford, and Wendell.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Sands; children, Billy (Robin) Sands, Jennifer (Daniel) Lawson; stepson, Timmy (Angel) Burchfield; grandchildren, DeeAnna Sands, Joshua Lawson, Kristen (David) Dockery, Megan (Caleb) Allen; step-grandchildren, Ashley Squires, Alex (Larrissa) Squires, Tifffany and Jerry; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Dockery and Malachi Sands; step-great-grandchildren, Emily, Riley, Nora, Noah, Kaison, and Paisley Squires; siblings, Sue and Lester, Carolyn and Monty, Gay and Larry, Sandra, Brickey and Valerie, and Denise; special cousin, Larry "Peanut" Sands; loving dog, Teddy; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Russell Family Cemetery with Pastor Billy Hearon officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
