It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Cathcart, born December 2, 1947, who left us peacefully on May 9, 2025. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life touched many with his kindness, humor, and dedication.
David was a devoted member of the First Baptist Alcoa Church, where he found strength and fellowship. An avid sports enthusiast, he loved watching NASCAR races, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and enjoying The Masters golf tournament. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving his community through his work in the automotive business, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Preceding him in death were his beloved son, David "DC" Cathcart II; his parents, Fred and Gena Cathcart; baby brother, Freddie Cathcart; brother, Darrell Cathcart; and nephew, James "Freddie" Cathcart.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Brenda Kaye Cathcart; daughter, Marcelle D. Taylor (Del Baldwin); grandchildren Miah Alysse McMurray (Brennan Dale McMurray) and great-granddaughter Taylor Faye McMurray; sister, Milly Summit (Bill); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special family members, including his Bonus Daughter, Laura Riddick, and Bonus Son, Michael Long.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to UT Hospice, Bre Simmerly, Donna and Bob Pedigo for their compassionate care and support during this time.
A memorial service honoring David's life will be held on May 13th at 11 a.m. at Big Toqua Cemetery, officiated by Tony Collins. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
