Obituary

Charlotte Heaton, who was cherished for her good humor and devotion to her family, died on September 8, 2025, in Louisville, Ky. She was 83.

She was born on February 10, 1942, in Maryville, Tennessee, to Boyd Baker, an employee of Alcoa Aluminum, and Bernice (Johnson) Baker, a homemaker.

In the early 1960s, she married Stanley Heaton and together they moved to Chicago. In 1969, they relocated to Louisville, where they raised their family and built their lives.

For more than 25 years, Charlotte worked as a telephone operator at the Executive West Hotel, a Louisville landmark. She was also a devoted member of Maryville Baptist Church in Louisville, where she forged lasting friendships and deepened her ties to the community.

Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Known for her wit and her ability to spark laughter, she also delighted in cooking, and her family recipes became much sought after. In the 1970s, she sold products for Home Interiors, developing a gift for home decorating that she carried throughout her life. She sought always to make her home welcoming—with good food, inviting surroundings, and the company of loved ones.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Heaton Sr., and her daughter, Connie Heaton. She is survived by her son, S. Warren Heaton Jr., and his wife, Melissa Mercer; her grandchildren Stan Heaton III and his wife, Katie; Cassi Rausch-Todd and her husband, Brandon; and Seth Rausch and his wife, Summer; her great-grandchildren, Cal Rausch-Prather, Cam Rausch-Williams, Zelda Heaton, and Cade Rausch; her brother, Terry Baker and his wife, Denita; her sister-in-law, Carol Curtis, and her husband, Frank; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, at Nelson Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are with Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
